PU UIPS ORGANISED WEBINAR ON PROJECT MANAGEMENT: A CRITICAL LIFE SKILL AND A PROFESSION”

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences & DST funded Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a Webinar on “Project Management: A critical life skill and a profession” under UIPS Expert Talk Series,today.

The talk was delivered by Mr Abhishek Mittal, UIPS alumnus of batch 2002 who is currently the General Manager – R&D Operations and Risk Management GLAXO-SMITHKLINE CONSUMER PVT. LTD. Hyderabad.

 The Chairperson, UIPS, Professor Indu Pal Kaur extended a warm welcome to everyone which was followed by an address by Professor Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University. The Vice Chancellor discussed the importance of key issues like quality product, cost effectiveness, professionalism and business ethics in creating a synergy and longer lasting sustainability in the market.

Professor Vivek Ranjan Sinha Dean Research, PU, highlighted the legacy of UIPS set up by their predecessors and the importance of TEC in development of technology, entrepreneurship and soft skill development.

Dr. Sanjeev Puri, Coordinator, Technology Enabling Centre and Honorary Coordinator CIIPP, PU, gave an overview of the mandate of TEC and promised that collaboration of TEC and UIPS will bring more laurels to the University.

Mr. Mittal started his talk by putting up a very relevant question to the audience " What are the skills (professionally), which we as a bachelor students should gain during our academic journey". The audience made a very prompt reply stating "adaptability to change, data science, analytical skills, mechatronics, catching up to the pace of new discovery, interpersonal skills, empathy" as the skills required at present times.

The speaker then sensitized the students that they need to learn new skills in the 21st century that can transcend simple academic knowledge and can give an edge in the business world. He projected how Project management gives students access to life skills - like communication, teamwork, and ethics – and technical skills – like planning and executing work within business constraints - to succeed in the business world.

Over 200 participants attended the webinar. The session evoked excellent response among participants witnessed by an interactive Q/A session.
