Senior IAS of 1993 Batch Sh. Anurag Verma have been appointed New Chief Secretary in Punjab on Monday.The Punjab government has issued an order in this regard. Verma is considered close to CM Bhagwant Mann. The name of IAS Anurag Verma was leading in the race for the post of Chief Secretary of Punjab.
Besides Verma, the name of 1992 batch IAS officer KAP Sinha was also in the fray for the post of chief secretary, but the final stamp was put on the name of Anurag Verma. Verma will also hold the charge of Principal Secretary, Department of Personnel and Vigilance.
Sh. Vijay Kumar Janjua, the present Chief Secretary of Punjab, is going to retire on June 30. Earlier there was talk of giving extension to Janjua, but this was not done on the part of the government. VK Janjua was appointed as the Chief Secretary of Punjab on 5 July 2022 after IAS Anirudh Tiwari was removed from the post of Chief Secretary.
These IAS officers were designated as Special Chief Secretaries
According to the order issued, 1990 batch IAS officer Anirudh Tiwari, IAS Anurag Agarwal, 1991 batch IAS officer A.K. Venu Prasad, IAS Seema Jain, 1992 batch IAS officers Sarvjit Singh, IAS Raji P. Srivastava and IAS KAP Sinha will be designated as Special Chief Secretaries to the Punjab government.
