OATH ADMINISTERED TO PPSC CHAIRMAN JATINDER SINGH AULAKH AND STATE CHIEF INFORMATION COMMISSIONER INDERPAL SINGH

The Punjab Governor Mr Banwarilal Purohit on Monday administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chairman of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Mr Jatinder Singh Aulakh and State Chief Information Commissioner Mr Inderpal Singh.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Mr Anurag Verma conducted the proceedings of a brief and impressive swearing-in-ceremony here at the Punjab Raj Bhawan this evening.

Mr Jatinder Singh Aulakh, a 1997-Batch former IPS officer of Punjab Cadre, hails from Village Bargari (Faridkot). During his long stint of 33 years in Punjab Police, he rose through the ranks starting as DSP to finally retiring as ‘Intelligence Chief’ in the rank of ADGP. Mr Aulakh did his schooling from PPS Nabha, BA (Honors) from DAV College, Chandigarh and LL.B. and MA History from Panjab University.

Prominent amongst others who attended the function included Cabinet Ministers Aman Arora, Bram Shanker Jimpa and Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Special Chief Secretary to Chief Minister VK Singh, DGP Gaurav Yadav, Director Media to Chief Minister Baltej Singh Pannu, PPSC Members Gurpartap Singh Mann, Supreet Ghuman and Harmohan Kaur Sandhu, State Information Commissioners Asit Jolly and Amrit Pratap Singh Sekhon, Officers of civil and Police administration besides family members of newly appointed Chairman and State Chief Information Commissioner.

While serving as SSP, he had headed various districts of state including SAS Nagar, Sangrur, Ropar, Jagraon, SBS Nagar and Khanna. He also served as Commissioner of Police Amritsar and Commissioner of Police Ludhiana, IG Patiala and Ferozepur Range, IG Headquarters and Intelligence. He retired in the rank of ADGP as Chief of Intelligence Wing. Mr Aulakh was bestowed the ‘National Award (Special), ‘Police Medal for Distinguished Services’ ‘Police Medal for Meritorious Services’ ‘Chief Minister’s Medal and three DGP Commendation Disc.

Likewise, eminent Advocate Inderpal Singh also took oath as the Chief Information Commissioner, Punjab. Born in 1963, S. Inderpal Singh is a name to reckon with in the legal sector and is on the panel of Union of India, standing Counsel for British High Commission, elected Member Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana High Court and later on elected Vice Chairman Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana High Court. He was appointed on August 20th, 2022 as Senior Additional Advocate General Punjab.

KNOW ABOUT AULAKH 

During his long stint of 33 years in Punjab Police, he rose through the ranks starting as ‘Deputy Superintendent of Police’ to finally retiring as ‘Intelligence Chief’ in the rank of ‘Additional Director General of Police’. After retiring as ‘Intelligence Chief’, Mr Aulakh has been devoting considerable time volunteering at Pingalwara Charitable Trust, Amritsar at Palsora Branch situated in Chandigarh to further his objective of social work.

Mr Aulakh hails from Village: Bargari, District: Faridkot and belongs to an agricultural background. He primarily owes his success to his father Late Sh. Jagwinder Singh Aulakh who was the ‘Sarpanch’ of Village Bargari for a continuous span of 35 years and was instrumental in shaping up his personality and ensuring that he stays connected to his roots. Mr Aulakh did his schooling from PPS Nabha, and prior to joining the services, pursued BA(Honors) from DAV College, Chd. Thereafter he further pursued LL.B. as well Master’s in History from Punjab University. .

Known as a soft-spoken yet firm administrator, Jatinder Aulakh, has a wide experience of working in the Chief Minister’s office with the former C.M. Late Harcharan Singh Brar, after an overhaul change in the CM’s security due to the assassination of Late Sardar Beant Singh. During his long span of 33 years, Mr Aulakh has always been at the helm of affairs assuming vital key positions in the Department of Punjab Police, even when the old regimes i.e. Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress were in power. While assuming the rank of ‘Senior Superintendent of Police’, he has headed various districts such as SAS Nagar, Sangrur, Ropar, Jagraon, SBS Nagar, and Khanna.

Having a rich experience of various field postings, Mr Aulakh while attaining the rank of ‘DIG’, also got the opportunity to serve as ‘Commissioner of Police, Amritsar’ and ‘Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana’. Thereafter attaining the rank of ‘Inspector General of Police’ he was also posted as ‘IGP Patiala Range’ and ‘IGP Ferozepur Range’. Apart from his extensive field experience, Mr Aulakh has also held vital key positions on the administrative side such as ‘IGP Headquarters’ and ‘IGP Intelligence.’ Shortly after the incumbent AAP Govt. came into power in 2022, Mr Aulakh was made the ‘Chief of Intelligence Wing’ in the rank of ‘ADGP’ and thereafter he finally got retired on 31.01.2023.

During his illustrious career spanning over 33 years, Mr Aulakh received many accolades both from the Central and State Government. Mr Aulakh, whilst posted as ‘SSP Sangrur’ in the year 2000, was instrumental in solving the infamous ‘Jassi Murder Case’ which was widely covered by National and International Media. Mr. Aulakh’s keen sense of observation and investigative skills helped him bag the ‘Best Investigated Case’ by the then DGP, Punjab and an appreciation letter was awarded to him by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister, Punjab.

During his stint as ‘Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana’, Mr Aulakh developed a web portal-cum-application called ‘SECURITY NET’ which was adopted by Governments of Gujarat & Himachal Pradesh during State Assembly Elections on the recommendation of Election Commission of India. For this initiative, Mr. Aulakh bagged the ‘National Award (Special), 2018’ which was presented by Hon'ble President of India. Apart from this, Mr Aulakh has also been bestowed with ‘Police Medal for Distinguished Services’ in the year 2022, ‘Police Medal for Meritorious Services’ in the year 2011, ‘Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty’ in the year 2012 and three (3) -Director General’s Commendation Disc in the years 2018, 2017 and 2010 respectively.

Apart from having an unblemished career, the wealth of his expertise and leadership, combined with deep understanding of the root problems faced by people of Punjab, are likely to turn out to be real assets for Punjab Public Service Commission under his esteemed ‘Chairmanship.’
