FORMER TEST CRICKETERS KAPIL DEV AND ASHOK MALHOTRA FELICITATED THE WINNERS

TEAM NO. 2 AND TEAM NO. 203 EMERGED AS THE JOINT WINNERS OF THE ALLENGERS GULLY CRICKET TOURNAMENT. TEAM NO. 3 AND TEAM NO. 35 BECAME JOINT WINNERS IN THE GIRLS' CATEGORY

Team No. 2 and Team No. 203 declared as the joint winners of the second edition of Allegers Gully Cricket Tournament. The final match scheduled at PCA Stadium in Mohali on Saturday could not be played due to rain and wet ground. Meanwhile, Team No. 3 and Team No. 35 were declared joint winners in the girls' category. A record 256 teams in boys and 46 teams in girls category participated in this 17-day tournament organized by UT Cricket Association and Chandigarh Police.

The closing ceremony which was scheduled to be held at the cricket stadium in sector 16 was also held in the Bhargava auditorium of PGI due to rain where the combine both teams were felicitated in the presence of former test cricketers - Kapil Dev and Ashok Malhotra, IG, Chandigarh Police RK Singh (IPS), UT Cricket Association’s President Sanjay Tandon and other sponsors. Along with felicitating the winning teams, the organizers presented medical kits to the participants and hygiene kits to the girl participants in particular. During the program, Acharya Manish, representing Asia Book of Records, presented the certificate of record and recognized this event as the tournament of the maximum number of teams. 

In his address, UTCA President Sanjay Tandon termed all the players brand ambassadors and appealed to them to join ten more youths with themselves and motivate them to participate in the upcoming third edition of gully cricket tournament by keeping them away from drugs and try to make a Guinness Book of World Record from Chandigarh.

In his address, Kapil Dev stressed that one should do drugs and that too in abundance, but be addicted to sports but maintain a balance with studies. A time will come when sports will be left but studies will definitely come in handy. Citing his own example, he said that this very study taught him to speak at the international platform. He also stressed that along with sports and studies, one should also pay attention to one's health. He advised that those who feel pressure in sports should stop playing but play freely. Comparing his past, he said that today's players are lucky that a body like UTCA inspires them to play. In his time, he played cricket with a hockey ball. at the end, he concluded his speech by saying that budding players should always be grateful to organizers like UTCA who give a new direction to their career.

In his address, Chandigarh Police’s IG RK Singh expressed his satisfaction over the event and said that the tournament has fulfilled its objectives. He said that the enemy neighbouring country keeps making new efforts to mislead the talents of the country by keeping the youth in the grip of drugs, but such events organized by UTCA and Chandigarh Police will never let them succeed in their plans. 

At the end of the program, Chandigarh Police SSP Kanwardeep Kaur (IPS) in her thank you address expressed gratitude to the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh Administration's Sports, Health, Education and Social Welfare departments as well as the sponsors due to whose efforts this event was successfully organized. 

Present on the occasion includes, Allengers' Principal Director RS Kanwar, Tynor's MD PJ Singh, CCPCR's Chairperson Shipra Bansal, along with senior police officials, UTCA members and players participating in the tournament.
