Ferozepur, a border district grappling with an escalating drug crisis and rising crimes, has witnessed growing public frustration with the Punjab Police’s inability to take effective action to curb the crime rate. In this tense environment, journalist and social activist Gurnam Singh Sidhu, President of the Sutlej Press Club and National Youth Awardee, has come under fire from police intelligence for his outspoken criticism.

Speaking to reporters, Sidhu highlighted how drugs and weapons are being smuggled into Punjab and beyond through Ferozepur’s porous border. He revealed that many youths, including women in border villages, are involved in drug trafficking. Urban areas, too, harbor large-scale drug operations, yet the police focus on minor raids, leaving major dealers untouched, allegedly due to police complicity.

Sidhu acknowledged the police's periodic search operations, ordered by the Punjab DGP, but claimed they often yield negligible results. He questioned why these efforts fail, pointing out that police officials are well aware of the reasons. Meanwhile, complaints of looting and snatching continue to pile up at police stations, leaving victims disheartened by the lack of justice.

Sidhu said his social media posts criticizing the police's inaction on drugs and crime have led to targeting by police intelligence. He expressed concerns about the possibility of false cases being registered against him but vowed to keep speaking the truth.

He thanked journalist groups, farmers, religious organizations, and concerned citizens for standing with him in his fight against drugs and crime. Sidhu called for unity, urging all sections of society to come together to tackle the social evils plaguing Ferozepur. “Only by standing united can we save our youth from the devastating impact of drugs and crime,” he said.
