Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday patted the Punjab Police for foiling a deep rooted conspiracy to defame Punjab by vigilantly preventing an attack on Akali leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at Amritsar.

Interacting with the media persons on the sidelines of dedication of ‘Nishan-e-Inquilaab” plaza here today, the Chief Minister condemned the attack in the strongest terms and said that there is no place for such dastardly acts at a sacred place like Sri Harmandir Sahib. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government had already deployed around 175 cops apart from the senior officers to prevent any untoward incident. He said that this produced the desired result as a conspiracy to bring bad name to the state was foiled by the Punjab Police who was keeping an eagle eye around Sri Harmandir Sahib.

The Chief Minister said that he is keeping a regular tab over the entire incident and has directed officers to maintain maximum vigil against anti-social elements. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he has already directed the Director General of Police to conduct a thorough probe into the matter. He said that Punjab is the land of the gurus, saints, seers, martyrs and has always been a torch bearer to mankind for values of brotherhood and communal harmony adding that maintaining the hard earned peace in the state is the first and foremost priority for him and his government and no one will be allowed to disturb it.

Meanwhile Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan has praised the Punjab Police for its prompt action to foiled the attack on Senior SAD leader and Ex- Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was penance at the entrance of the Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar.

In a press statement issued here today, S. Sandhwan, while terming the incident very unfortunate, said that every person feels safe in the Guru Ghar and respect for the Guru Ghar is utmost. He condemned the incident calling it highly condemnable.

S. Sandhwan said that the Punjab Police deserve accolade for the vigilant action to avert the attack at the most sacred place.

Capt Amarinder said that Punjab has already suffered a lot during the 1980s and 1990s and it cannot afford another dark era. He called upon people to beware of the forces, which are trying to sabotage peace in Punjab.Arvind Khanna, the state vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party and former MLA, expressed concern over the attack on Shiromani Akali Dal senior leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at Sri Darbar Sahib. He demanded a high-level investigation into the incident. 


In the meantime 
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has condemned the murderous attack on Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal inside the Golden Temple complex today.

In a statement, Capt Amarinder expressed relief that Mr Badal was safe and the bullet did not hit or harm him. He hailed the person on the spot who overpowered the assailant and also deflected his arm, which prevented the bullet from hitting Mr Badal.

The former Chief Minister pointed out, Mr Badal had sought forgiveness from the Akal Takhat and was undergoing the punishment pronounced on him, inside the Golden Temple complex. He said those behind the attack on the Akali leader had violated the Sikh Maryada.

Khanna attributed the deteriorating situation in Punjab to the flawed policies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of giving free rein to gangsters and other anti-social elements, leading to such incidents. 

Khanna further emphasized the need for an inquiry into how there was a security lapse for a Z-plus protected leader. He suggested that the attack might be part of a well-thought-out conspiracy, which could only be uncovered through a thorough investigation.

Khanna noted that the incident has raised concerns among peace-loving people of Punjab. He concluded that the attack highlighted the current law and order situation in Punjab, which now seems to be solely reliant on God.
