GOVT. WILL HONOR THOSE DOING GOOD WORK AGAINST DRUGS ABUSE : CM

Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that Panchayats doing good work against drugs and police officers and staff who take swift action to stop drug peddling or supply will be honored by the government. He said that if any officer concerned fails to curb drugs in his area, action will be taken against them. The government is committed to making Haryana a drug-free State. He emphasized that negligence done at any level in drug-related matters will not be tolerated.

The Chief Minister was addressing a programme organized against drug abuse in Panchkula on Wednesday. He said that drug abuse has become a global issue. The involvement of terrorist groups and syndicates in drug trafficking has led to the threat of narco-terrorism, which is now becoming a national security and sovereignty concern for countries.

Government has established an inter-state secretariat in Panchkula to curb drug abuse

The Chief Minister shared that the government has formed a special task force to take action against drug traffickers. This task force is continuously working to root out drugs from the state. The government has established an inter-state secretariat in Panchkula to tackle drug menace. Representatives from seven northern states – Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan coordinate and share information to prevent drug abuse.

The Chief Minister said that to fulfill Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India, the state government has taken up the responsibility of making a drug-free society. Under his leadership, a zero-tolerance policy has been adopted against narcotics.

52 drug de-addiction centers opened in the state

Sh. Nayab Singh Saini informed that 52 drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers have been opened in the state. Drug de-addiction wards have also been set up in government medical colleges. Additionally, 13 district civil hospitals have drug de-addiction centers, he said.

He said Mission teams have been formed at the village, ward, and state levels for drug de-addiction and rehabilitation. A mobile app named 'Saathi' has been developed for all chemist stores in the state to prevent the illegal sale of drugs used for narcotics.

The Chief Minister informed that a program called “Dhaakad” has been launched at schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions to protect children and youth from drug addiction. To effectively control drug trafficking and sales, Anti-Narcotics Cells have been established at the district, range, and state levels in Haryana, he said.He said that the goal of the government is to raise awareness and make Haryana drug-free, working in collaboration with saints, mahatmas, NGOs, and civil organizations.

The Chief Minister said that it is everyone's responsibility to raise awareness about the ill effects of drug consumption among the youth and support those struggling with addiction in quitting.

On this occasion, Rajya Sabha MP, Sh. Kartik Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Dr. Sumita Misra, senior officers of the health department, and other dignitaries were also present.
