Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has referred to the Chief Secretary , the Vishwa Jain Sangthan's (VJS) demand for ban on non-veg and alcohol sales on Jains’ festival.

The VJS represents all the sects of Jains. It has worked for upliftment of the society. Jains (a religious Minority) are playing a great role in the development of State and Nation, peacefully. They generate revenue and employment and do a lot of Charity.

VJS Punjab coordinator Dr Sandeep Jain said that Mahavir Janam Kalyanak is falling on 10.04.2025. Lord Mahavir,24th tirthankar of Jains was an apostle of Peace, Non-Violence, Truth and Universal brotherhood. It will be a befitting tribute to him and his principles, if the killing of innocent animals, birds, fish and serving & consumption of Non-Vegetarian Food, Alcohol is stopped on this pious day.

It is worth mentioning that Punjab State Minority Commission had already advised the Govt to this effect vide a resolution. Its practice by Punjab Govt to issue the orders in this concern. The VJS has requested the state govt, to issue the orders to this effect and widely publicise/ enforce this on Mahavir Jayanti.
