Former MP Sunil Jakhar and MLA Sandeep Jakhar today inaugurated a Kinnow grading and waxing plant that was set up on Abohar-Fazilka bypass by the kin of former councillor Avtar Singh Tinna.
Sunil Jakhar said that making Abohar a California was the road map prepared by Dr. Balram Jakhar, former Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Many progressive farmers of the area turned towards planting orchards instead of conventional crops. The result is that 67 percent of the Kinnow fruit production of Punjab is now contributed by the Abohar-Fazilka region.
The shelf life of Kinnow fruit has been increased by setting up more than 100 Kinnow Grading and Waxing plants in Abohar, but dreams are yet to come true in terms of economic benefits. State and central governments should provide maximum facilities for marketing of Kinnow. The shelf life of Kinnow fruit has been increased by setting up more than 100 Kinnow Grading and Waxing plants in Abohar, but dreams are yet to come true in terms of economic benefits. MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that when there was an absolute need of canal water for the gardens, the same was not made available due to mismanagement. Due to high temperatures, thousands of plants got scorched and many farmers had to uproot the plants. The consent given by the government on the demand of compensation to the farmers and agricultural laborers should be fulfilled soon. It will also have to be ensured that farmers and traders are not exploited by irresponsible elements in the name of any transport union.
