Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti 2024 was celebrated at Air force Station Bhisiana to honour the legacy of warriors who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation and to express gratitude for all personnel who took part in the operations.
No. 17 Squadron of the Indian Air Force, well known as “Golden Arrows”, based then at Bhisiana Airfield, participated actively in Op Safed Sagar and flew several reconnaissance and strike missions to flush out enemy troops. Towards this, the squadron was awarded the coveted ‘Battle Honours’ for its meritorious service during operations. During operations, Sqn Ldr Ajay Ahuja made the supreme sacrifice while flying the MiG 21 aircraft and was awarded ‘Vir Chakra’ posthumously for his gallantry act.
To commemorate the occasion, a Vayusainik Milan was organised on 19 July 2024 for air warriors and families to interact with the NOK of the fallen warriors and veterans who shared their experiences during the operations and inspired the future generations.
A Felicitation Ceremony was also organised to enlighten the air warriors through symbolic re-enactment of operations during the conflict providing an immersive experience to relive the bravery and sacrifice of our war heroes. The event served as a platform for veterans, serving personnel, and senior dignitaries to come together in camaraderie and solidarity, inspiring the future generation with war stories.
