Continuing with the drive against corrupt police personnel, the Delhi Police’s Vigilance Unit, Barakhamba Road, has apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pramod Kumar from Police Station Krishna Nagar, Shahdara District, while he was accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant, a resident of District Rohtak, Haryana.
On 04.11.2024, a complainant came at Vigilance Unit, Delhi Police, at Barakhmabha Road, New Delhi, and made a complaint wherein he informed that he has been summoned by ASI Pramod of PS Krishna Nagar in a matter of financial dispute and is being forced to settle the matter. He alleged that he is being threatened that if he does not settle the matter in favour of the other party, a criminal case would be registered and he would be arrested.
Further, it was alleged that ASI Pramod was demanding Rs 2 Lacs as bribe to close the matter. The complainant informed that on his pleading, the bribe amount has been reduced to Rs 50,000/- and today he has been called to pay the first installment of Rs 10,000/ of the bribe amount.
Aggrieved by the demand of bribe, the complainant approached Vigilance Unit. Immediately upon the receipt of information at Vigilance Unit, a team was formed and a trap was laid. At about 6 P.M., ASI Pramod called the complainant to his room located at First Floor of Police Station Krishna Nagar and again demanded bribe money from the complainant.
Upon being demanded, the complainant handed over the bribe money which was accepted by ASI Pramod and put in the drawer of his office table.
The Vigilance team under the supervision of Inspector Nipun Kumar, ASI Hemant Kumar, HC Anand Kumar, ASI Rajkumar and Ct. Deepak, which was discreetly observing all the activities from a distance, immediately swung into action and apprehended ASI Pramod. On search, the tainted bribe money was recovered from the drawer of his office table.
After completing all the legal proceedings, an FIR U/s 7 of Prevention of Corruption (PoC) Act, 1988 (amended in the year 2018) was registered at Police Station Vigilance, Delhi Police. ASI Pramod has been arrested in the case and has been produced before Ld. Spl. Judge, Rouse Avenue Court, and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation into the case is being conducted. ASI Pramod is resident of District Muzaffar Nagar, UP, and has joined Delhi Police in the year 1991.
Citizens are informed and advised to share any grievance related to misuse of authority by any police personnel, on the Vigilance Helpline Number – 1064. They can also visit the office of Delhi Police Vigilance Unit on Barakhamba Road, and share their grievance in person. The information shared by the citizens will be promptly verified and suitable legal action will be taken.
The identity of the complainant will be protected. The citizens, irrespective of whether they are victims or accused in criminal matters, have their legal right to be treated fairly and impartially. Any misuse of the authority of law by any police personnel shall be immediately reported to the Vigilance Unit of Delhi Police, so that appropriate legal action can be taken against such erring officials.
