Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has today apprehended accused Junior Engineer of Central Water Commission (CWC), Megna Sub-Division, Silchar, Cachar, Assam for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 12,000/- from the complainant. 

A case was registered by CBI on 18.09.2024 against said accused Junior Engineer, Central Water Commission (CWC), Megna Sub-Division, Link Road, Silchar, Cachar, Assam and unknown public servants /others on allegations that accused demanded a bribe from the complainant for clearing payments of Rs. 1.55 lakh (approx.) pertaining to the hiring of a vehicle of the complainant by CWC, Silchar.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 12,000/- from complainant for clearing his pending bills.

Searches are being conducted by CBI at various locations.
