PM Narendra Modi's recent US visit last month has not only strengthened bilateral relations between the two nations but has also made it easier for the American education industry to expand its market in India. To further cementing this tie, a delegation of 17 senators and educationists from the US State of Alabama is on a visit to India, which is promoting vivid aspects of American education in India. The delegation inaugurated the ‘Education Centre of US’ at Mohali which was attended by senators, educationists and university officials from the US, and this region. This center will prove to be vital for international students aspirants to get higher education in the US.
Addressing a press conference held at Chandigarh Press Club after the inauguration, Rajan Kumar, Director, Education Centre of US while citing the data from the Ministry of External Affairs, said that the current trade between the two nation is 200 billion dollars, which is set to grow even more in the near future. The educational sector has played an important role in this relationship.
At present, 2.70 lakh Indian students are pursuing education in the US while the vast Indian community in the US with a massive populace of 4.4 million. The recent visit of the PM to the US has started a new era in which both sides are committed to strengthen the education sector.
India is learning a lot from the US experience in community colleges to meet its demands for skill development. It has been agreed to cooperate with US institutions in the field of technology enabled learning and massive open online courses to increase access to education in India. Both sides are expected to benefit under the Global Initiative of Academic Network (GIAN) initiated by India.

During the press conference, the delegation comprising Senators Arthur Orr, Bobby Singleton, Donnie Cheshteen, Tim Melson, Jay Hovey, Prince Cheshnut, Gerald Dial, and academicians Eric Mackey, Srinivas Javangula, Walter Gonsoulin, Chresal Threadgill, Kerry J Palmer, Govind Menon, Reenay Rogers, Meesoon Han, Akali Fulmer and Devyani Khare from Texas State University emphasized the importance of certification in ensuring quality and portability of skills across borders. Earlier, the delegation also met the Education ministry at New Delhi to foster the relationship followed by premier institutions like Lovely Professional University, CGC Landran, Chandigarh University and others.
