Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said at the function held at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium Fazilka to administer oath to recently elected panches that Department of Social Justice and Empowerment will provide a special grant of Rs. 20 lakhs to all those villages where SC population is more than 50 percent. Forty villages of Fazilka come under this scheme and the first instalment of the grant will be released soon. She called for strengthening the community in the villages and ending the caste divide and said that the villages which will build a common cremation ground will also be given a grant of 5 lakh rupees by her department.
The minister said that the state government will not only ensure funds for development works but will also ensure that people's money is spent on people. She said that the panch sarpanches have the biggest role in the development of the village and people have placed their trust in you, so now it is your responsibility to live up to the people's trust.
She specially congratulated the women who became Panch or Sarpanch and asked them to actively participate in the panchayat work. She administered the oath to the panches of the five blocks of the district.
MLAs Narinder Pal Singh Sawna, Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy and Amandeep Singh Goldy Musafir, Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and SSP Varinder Singh Brar were present.
