The Hon’ble Prl. Spl. Judge Court for CBI Cases, Visakhapatnam has sentenced accused Sri Botsa Peda Rama Rao, then Sub Postmaster, Sub Post Office, Uttaravilli, Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh to five years Imprisonment with fine of Rs.37.12 lakh in case of fraudulent distribution of MGNREGS wages and misappropriation of public funds.
CBI had registered the instant case on 23.05.2016 against accused Sri Botsa Peda Rama Rao, then Sub Postmaster, on allegations that accused while working as Sub-Postmaster, Sub-Post Office, Donkinavalasa and Sub-Post Office, Uttaravilli, Parvathipuram Division during the period from 11.07.2010 to 12.10.2015, dishonestly and fraudulently, forged and falsified the Branch Office Daily Accounts pertaining to distribution of wages under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and charged an amount of Rs.41,10,307/- towards disbursement of wages to beneficiaries under MGNREGS against the actual disbursement of wages of Rs.4,10,307/- on 16 instances during the years 2013, 2014 & 2015 at Branch Post Offices Palteru, Golladi, Mallampeta, Badangi, Akulakatta, Kunayavalasa, Nandigam and Rejeru.
Accused, thereby, misappropriated an amount of Rs.37,00,000/, allotted under MGNREGS and caused a wrongful loss to the Postal Department, the Government of Andhra Pradesh & the Govt. of India and corresponding wrongful gain to himself. After completion of the investigation, 3 Chargesheets were filed by CBI on 01.11.2016 and 18.01.2017against the accused.The Court, after trial, found accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
