The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing campaign against corruption, on Wednesday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jaswant Singh, posted Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar, for accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000.
An official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau disclosed that the arrest was made following a complaint filed by a resident of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
The spokesperson further stated that the complainant had lodged a complaint on the Anti-Corruption helpline, alleging that his son had an accident with an autorickshaw and the accused ASI allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 to resolve the case. Subsequently the complainant paid Rs 3,000/- as bribe to the accused ASI for ensuring a favorable outcome in the matter. Following a thorough verification of the complaint and supporting evidence, it was confirmed that the accused had indeed accepted the bribe.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against ASI Jaswant Singh at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Range Amritsar. The spokesperson added that the accused would be produced before the competent court tomorrow, and further investigation is ongoing.
