Punjab Governor and Administrator UT Chandigarh Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, presided over the Annual Convocation Ceremony of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, as the Chief Guest today. A total of 818 graduates and postgraduates were conferred degrees at the grand event, which witnessed moments of pride, reflection, and inspiration.
Addressing the gathering, The Administrator Kataria praised the college for standing as a beacon of women empowerment and academic excellence. Tracing the legacy of its illustrious founder, Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, he noted that the college has lived up to its name by fostering generations of women who are educated, empowered, and socially responsible. He commended the DAV College Managing Committee, faculty, staff, and students for their collective efforts in taking the institution to greater heights.

Ambedkar, asserting that “education is the most powerful weapon to change the world,” and added that in today’s era, education must not only provide knowledge but also instill values and life skills. He remarked that the National Education Policy 2020 rightly envisions this synthesis.

Shri Kataria encouraged the graduating students to align their personal aspirations with societal needs, stating, “What use is ability if it does not translate into usefulness for the society? Each one of you must strive not only to be successful professionals, but also responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to the nation.”
Reflecting on his own journey as a teacher, Shri Kataria said he continues to take pride in that identity. “A teacher is a sculptor who molds not just individuals but the future of a nation,” he said. He urged the young graduates to always remember the invaluable role that teachers play in their lives and to carry forward that respect in society.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of gender equality, Shri Kataria praised the increasing presence and performance of women in roles that were traditionally dominated by men—be it in the armed forces, aviation, or governance. He lauded the students of MCM for continuing this legacy of excellence across all domains—academic, cultural, and athletic.
Shri Kataria concluded his address by motivating the students to embrace determination, discipline, and dedication as the cornerstones of their future. “Success is not an accident—it is the outcome of focused effort, values, and service,” he remarked, encouraging the students to move forward with courage and clarity.
The event commenced with a solemn Saraswati Vandana, followed by the Annual Report presented by Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma, who highlighted the academic and extracurricular achievements of the college during the year 2024-25. The Governor unveiled the Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) Club Report and felicitated university toppers, special achievers, faculty members who completed their PhDs, and alumnae who brought laurels to the institution.
Principal Ms. Neena Sharma congratulated the graduates and urged them to pursue their dreams with focused determination. She thanked Shri Kataria for gracing the occasion and inspiring the students with his words of wisdom.
