16 MONTHS OF YUDH NASHIAN VIRUDH: OVER 70K DRUG SMUGGLERS HELD WITH 3125KG HEROIN 

POLICE TEAMS ALSO SEIZE ₹19.40-CR DRUG MONEY, 842KG OPIUM, 675-QTL POPPY HUSK, 59L INTOXICANT PILLS, GANGSTRAN TE VAAR CONTINUES FOR DAY 162; 368 HELD

With the ongoing decisive war against drugs ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has completed 16 months, Punjab Police has registered 50,656 first information reports (FIRs) and arrested 70,871 drug smugglers leading to the recovery of 3125 kg heroin since March 1, 2025.

Since the launch of this anti-drug drive, Punjab Police, under the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, has been conducting operations daily simultaneously in all the 28 Police districts of the state.

Apart from the recovery of 3125 kg haul of heroin, Special DGP Law and Order Praveen Sinha said that police have also seized 842 kg opium, 675 quintals poppy husk, 85 kg charas, 1022 kg ganja, 58 kg ICE, 59 lakh intoxicant pills/tablets, and ₹19.40 crore drug money.

On day 487, Punjab Police has arrested 87 drug smugglers arrested on Wednesday and recovered 1.8 kg heroin, 401 intoxicant tablets/capsules and Rs 11.12 lakhs drug money from their possession. As part of De-addiction, the Punjab Police has convinced nine persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.

Meanwhile, Police teams have continued ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign on Day 162 with 368 individuals arrested after 650 raids, while, preventive action has been taken against 287 persons and eight proclaimed offenders (POs) were also held. People can anonymously report information related to wanted criminals and gangsters, and also share tips on crime and criminal activity, through the Anti Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946.
