335 CANDIDATES WILL CONTEST THE ELECTIONS IN FAZILKA DISTRICT

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu said that after rejections of 20 nominations for the elections in Municipal Corporation Abohar, Municipal Council Fazilka and Nagar Panchayat Arniwala, 7 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers. Now a total of 335 candidates will contest the elections.

She said that 195 candidates from Abohar, 120 from Fazilka and 47 from Arniwala Sheikh Subhan, which makes a total of 362 candidates, had filed their nomination papers. On Monday, 18 nomination papers from Abohar and 2 from Fazilka were rejected, thus, 342 nomination papers were found valid till yesterday. Today, 2 candidates from Abohar and 5 from Fazilka have withdrawn their nomination papers, thus, now 335 candidates are left.

She said that for these elections, 189 polling booths have been set up in a total of 86 wards in the district. For 50 wards- 120 polling booths have been set up in Municipal Corporation Abohar, For 25 wards- 58 polling booths have been set up in Municipal Council Fazilka and for 11 wards- 11 polling booths have been set up in Nagar Panchayat Arniwala where voting will be held from 08:00 am to 05:00 pm on May 26.

She said that 1,73,754 voters will exercise their right to vote in these elections, out of which 91,474 are men and 82,272 are women while 8 are other voters. The counting of votes will be held on 29 May 2026.
