Captain’s 18 & Swinging Samurai recorded their second successive wins of the Havelle Lloyd CGL with comprehensive 6-1 efforts against overnight table toppers Homeland Chandigarh Gladiators & Signature by KLV respectively here at the Chandigarh Golf Club.

(MOREPIC1)  In the day’s other matches, Pirates of the Greens made a memorable Havells Lloyd CGL debut with a 4.5-2.5 win by upsetting the defending champions Canam Raptors while Sleepy Owl Chargers had a day to remember by condemning Sultans of Swing to a second consecutive 5-2 defeat.

The day began with an air of anticipation as Captain’s 18 took on a strong Gladiators team, fresh from blanking Golf Masters on the opening day. They took early leads in almost all games & maintained the same throughout the day as they went on to record big wins. YS Bains & Capt Mohinderjeet Singh Bedi combined to record the biggest win of the match with a 6&5 result for Captain’s 18 while two pairs including that of co-owner Randeep Singh and one singles game were won 4 holes up. Shiraz Monga was the lone point maker for the Gladiators with a 4&3 win of his own.

The Samurai again came out swinging as they showed their prowess against Signature by KLV who were playing their first match of the season. The result of the games were much closer than what the final scoreline suggested as most of the games went to the wire finishing on the final two holes of the golf course. Himmat Singh Sandhu scored the sole point for Signature by KLV while Deshvir Singh & Jaipal Hundal carded the biggest margin of game win with a 5&4 result. Col Parminder Singh & Sehaj Sidhu also won their game with 4&2 margin.

The new team, Pirates Of The Greens’ first day at the office was massive as they upset the holders Canam Raptors by a comfortable 4.5-2.5 margin. The Raptors are traditionally slow starters to a tournament but the Pirates stormed their ships with a statement win. After the singles games were split between the teams – Kulvinder Singh winning 6&5 for the Pirates & Col. JM Singh winning 7&6 for the Raptors – the debutants managed to sneak out wins in the final three games to turn the tie in their favour. Vivek Krishan & Brig Kishore Malhotra won 6&5 to seal the win for their team.

Sleepy Owl Chargers shook off their opening day blues with a tense 5-2 result against Sultans of Swing. At the outset, Col AS Bajwa & Col H Panging won the singles games to build momentum for the Chargers after Asim Gupta & Sandeep Jasuja rolled out a huge 7&6 win for the Sultans of Swing. Three of the four other fourball games went to the Chargers on a day where they couldn’t do much wrong.
