In view of the continuous rainfall in the region and with the impact of water released in Sukhna Choe from the Regulator Gates of Sukhna Lake, the bridges on Sukhna Choe i.e. Village Kishangarh bridge, Shastri nagar/Babu Dham bridge, Makhan Majra low level bridge and bridge near CTU Workshop, Industrial Area Phase I, the right and left boulders of these bridges and the road on both sides near the boulders have got damaged and these road stretches have been closed for movement in view of public safety.
Beside these locations, the traffic was also closed and diverted from Railway Under bridges side near CTU workshop, Industrial Area, Phase I and Mauli Jagran due to heavy water logging at these locations. Consequently, the traffic vehicular load coming from Panchkula (Haryana) and Baltana (Punjab) has increased on the Madhya Marg road stretch from Housing Board Light Point upto Transport Light Point in particular and on Madhya Marg. In order to maintain the traffic flow and to reduce the traffic congestion, traffic duties is deployed on all the major junctions of Madhya Marg and the additional points are also covered by deploying extra manpower.(SUBHEAD)
Evening shift duties from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM is also deployed on major critical locations of this road stretch to mitigate traffic congestion and for smooth flow of traffic by way of manual regulation of traffic, wherever required.
The real time intimation regarding the conditions of the ibid bridges, road conditions and functioning of ATC signals is being constantly and shared with the road wing, public health wing, electrical wing of UT Engineering Department as well as with the Engineering Department of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for taking immediate remedial measures on priority basis so that the traffic on the ibid locations can be opened to decongest the load at Madhya Marg in larger public interest.
The updates regarding real-time situation of the closure of roads at ibid bridges alongwith the work being undertaken by the engineering department at these ibid locations is also being shared to the general public through Social Media Accounts i.e. Twitter & Facebook of Chandigarh Traffic Police as well as through FM Radios.
The ACP/Traffic, Panchkula Police has also been requested for diverting the traffic towards Zirakpur side from where the commuters can come to Chandigarh and proceed to other adjoining places. The map showing the alternative routes to be taken by the commuters is also annexed for convenience of the commuters in larger public interest.
