A joint meeting under the Chairmanship of the Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Transport, U.T Chandigarh was held on 06.07.2023 to discuss various important road safety related issues.
The meeting was attended by the SSP/Traffic & Security, Commissioner MCC, Chief Architect, Chief Engineer MCC, representatives of UT Engineering Department, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, Urban Town Planning Department/UT, ADC U.T Chandigarh, Transport Department, STA/Chandigarh, DSP/Traffic (Road Safety) and Sh. Nirpinder Jain & Rajat Kalsi, Road Safety Experts of Chandigarh Road Safety Society (CRSS) among others.
The following agenda points were discussed:-
*Provision of “Traffic Police Assistance Booths” at 08 major intersections in the city.
*Earmarking of Pick and Drop Points for Auto Rickshaws as per Bus Queue Shelters on Madhya Marg under pilot project and auto rickshaw stand-cum-pick & drop facility at 08 locations in the City.
*Provision of extreme Left lane for buses/trucks/taxis/commercial vehicles on the city roads.
*Construction of Table-Tops at Black Spots as per IRC standards
*Physical segregation of cycle tracks marked on main carriageway roads i.e. on Uttar Marg from Lake Sports Complex upto CM Punjab residence, on Madhya Marg from Transport Light Point upto Dhillon Barrier and on Purv Marg from Transport Light Point to Tribune Chowk. 6. Parking issues at Sukhna Lake, Bird Park and Rock Garden.
*Functioning of street lights on various roads of the city. Some of the key decisions were construction of Table Tops at Black Spots, to expedite the work of earmarking of auto stands and pick and drop points and segregation of cycle track on priority on Purv and Madhya Marg, provision of additional parking facilities around Sukhna Lake Area to ease out the parking issues and traffic congestion at Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden and Bird Park.
The chairperson also instructed to the concerned stake holder departments to also explore the provision of providing shuttle bus services for Sukna Lake, Rock Garden and Bird Park along with the site where the visitor’s vehicles can be parked and for ferrying the visitors in shuttle buses to these tourist places.(SUBHEAD)
All the stakeholders departments were also directed to have a proper coordination at the time of initial planning, at the time of final execution plan and also before the start of the final work execution in time bound manner and the Experts of CRSS shall also be involved at each stage and their observations and recommendations shall also be incorporated in the proposed works to be initiated by the stake holder departments. The concerned departments have been asked to implement the decisions taken within stipulated time period on priority basis for the safely of the road USERS.
