Former Cabinet Minister and BJP State Vice President Mr Balbir Singh Sidhu today slammed GAMADA for thrashing the 4000 allottees with hefty and totally unjustified land enhancement cost.

Mr Sidhu stated this decision was headless and would face massive heat from the allottees. He said, “Charging Rs 3,164 per square meter as additional cost from the allottees/transferees of Sectors 76 to 80, is totally unjustified. This will trigger strong resentment among allottees who have been living here for years after paying all their dues.” This unfounded decision will translate into over Rs 6 lakh for allottees holding 8 marla plots and nearly Rs 4 lakh holding 6 marla plots, he added.

(SUBHEAD)Terming the decision completely unwarranted, baseless and unfair, Mr Sidhu, said, “Residents are in no position to pay such a huge amount after clearing all dues as per GMADA policy.” He declared that no stone would be left unturned to reverse these orders adding that the Punjab Government should immediately intervene otherwise it will face agitation from the allottees. He said that this unfortunate decision will also shake the faith of investors in GMADA.

Mr Sidhu said that there is no justification in the rationale being put up by the GAMADA authorities that enhancement charges are necessary due to the increase in compensation paid to a farmer/landowner for the acquisition of their land by the court.

He further questioned, “Compensation dispute is between GMADA and the farmers/landowners. So why are allottees being penalized for no fault of theirs?”
