PUNJAB GOVT WILL GIVE ASAFWALA WAR MEMORIAL A FACE LIFT: AMAN ARORA

Information, Public Relations, Housing and Urban Development Minister Aman Arora on Sunday said that the Asafwala War Memorial developed near the international border in Fazilka district will be given a face lift by the Punjab government.

He had come to pay obeisance at the memorial that was developed by the Shaheedon Ki Samadh Committee with the help of Indian Army and Punjab Govt as a tribute to the martyrs of the Indo-Pak war of 1971.

Arora said that the memorial will be beautified by the Punjab government with a cost of Rs 15 lakh and a corridor will be provided from the main gate to the martyr's museum on the main road.

He also announced installation of solar powered lights and a pump at the memorial. He said that the team of PEDA would soon visit Asafwala and initiate action in this regard.(SUBHEAD)

Saluting the martyrdom of the great martyrs of the 1971 war, Arora said that we cannot repay their debt as the borders of the country are safe because of their sacrifices. He said that a humble effort is being made by the Punjab government to fulfill its duty towards the families of the martyrs by giving financial assistance of Rs 1 crore.

Fazilka MLA Narinder Pal Singh Sawna and Balluana MLA Amandeep Singh Goldy Musafir also paid their respects to the martyrs. Karan Gilhotra, President, PHD Chamber of Commerce, Punjab thanked the minister on behalf of the managing committee.

Arora was welcomed by Committee chairman Sandeep Gilhotra, Karan Gilhotra, Praful Chander Nagpal and Shashi Kant.
