Metro Unit of Delhi Police has apprehended a desperate gang of four women involved in pick-pocketing in Delhi Metro namely (1) Sharmila R/o Delhi age- 32 Yrs (2) Gayatri R/o Delhi age- 26 Yrs (3) Anita R/o Delhi age- 40 Yrs (4). Urmila R/o Delhi age – 35 Yrs and worked out a case of pick pocketing and recovered Rs. 12,000/- Cash and some documents from their possession.
On 06.01.2023, complainant Swami Harshanand, a Yog Guru, aged 65 years, S/o Swami Devender Giri R/o Gandhi Dham, Kachh, Gujarat, reported that while he was travelling from Noida Sec-16 to Rajiv Chowk Metro, his purse containing Rs. 12,000/- along with some documents viz. Debit card, PAN Card etc. was stolen by pick pocketers in running metro. A case vide FIR No. 01/23 u/s 379/411/34 IPC was registered at PS Rajiv Chowk Metro.
Considering the quantum of value, a team led by Inspr. Gyaneshwar Singh, SHO/ Rajiv Chowk Metro comprising of W/SI Rishali Yadav, SI Charan Dass, HC Sule Chand No. 936/Metro, along with Special staff of metro unit under the supervision of Inspr. Sameer Shrivastava and overall supervision of the undersigned has been constituted.(SUBHEAD)
INVESTIGATION:–After registration of case, many CCTV footages at Sec-16, Noida, Rajiv Chowk Metro station including running metro inside the trains were thoroughly checked. After deep analysis of CCTV footages for about 12 metro stations from Noida Sec-16 to Rajiv Chowk, with the help of Special Staff, Metro, it was found that 04 women were involved in the instant case. Above mentioned four women were apprehended on 10.01.2023 and on their instance cash of Rs. 12,000/- has been recovered. The case is on progressive way and further efforts are being made to trace their other gang member.

MODUS OPERANDI: Mr. Jitendra Mani, IPS, DCP, said, the above mentioned accused women used to pick-pocketing in metro trains, crowded buses, trains etc. They used to surround the victim and divert the mind of the victim from his/ her items/ belongings. When the accused person found the attention of the passenger/victim diverted, one of them steals the cash and valuable articles. The stolen articles were later distributed among all the group members and used for their livelihood and other expenses.
