As per Jail order UTP Aftab Amin Poonawala was required to be taken to Forensic Science Laboratory Rohini from Central Jail (Tihar). As per the norms of DAP 3rd Bn. a team comprising SI Ravinder, SI Vikram, HC Shakti, Ct Shyam Sunder and HC Ashwani (driver) were detailed after proper briefing to escort the said UTP from Tihar jail to FSL Rohini in a Jail van .
The team reached Tihar Jail at around 08 AM and took the custody of UTP from jail authorities and escorted to Rohini Court Lockup to produce before FSL officials for Polygraph test. I.O. Inspector Manoj Kumar and UTP along with the escorting team was taken to FSL Rohini. The local Police was informed in advance and accordingly a command was also escorted by local police in FSL.
In the evening, at around 6.45 PM, when the UTP was ready to escort from FSL laboratory to Tihar jail, the outside area of FSL was checked by escort team as well as by local police and no suspicious movements of persons was noticed.(SUBHEAD)
While, the Jail van moved from FSL Rohini office and crossed the gate, suddenly a group of people attacked on the jail van with swords in their hands but the Command of 3rd Bn DAP displayed exemplary presence of mind and swiftly moved the jail van from the place so as to avoid any harm to the UTP and the escorting staff.
The commendable action of the escorting team averted a major tragedy yesterday and safely deposited the UTP at Central Jail (Tihar). The timely action and tactful handling of the 3rd Bn. staff averted any untoward incident to be occurred and shown the professional handling to tackle any difficult situation.
ON Tuesday CP Delhi has visited Vikas Puri Police Line office of 3rd Bn. DAP to meet the members of the escort team and appreciate their presence of mind and tactful handling and also boost their morale and suitably rewarded each member, said Dhal Singh, DCP, 3rd Battalion.
