CBI COURT PATNA CONVICTS AND SENTENCES FORMER EXECUTIVE ENGINEER AND A TRANSPORTER IN BITUMEN SCAM CASE

The CBI Court, Patna, today i.e., on 11.12.2025 has convicted and sentenced the accused Baikunth Nath Sharma, the then Executive Engineer, Road Construction Division (RCD), Biharsharif to One Years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI ) with a fine of Rs. 35,000 and a Private Person namely Suresh Kumar Gupta (Transporter) to Three Years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI ) with a Fine of Rs. 1.5 lakh in Bitumen Scam case. 

The instant case was registered by Banka Town P.S vide FIR No.289/96 which was later taken over by CBI in compliance with the orders of the Hon’ble Patna High Court dated 20.02.1997. The allegation was that M/s Tirupati Transport Agency, Calcutta was engaged for transporting bulk Bitumen to the consignee, i.e, Ex. Engineer, RCD, Banka. The said transporter supplied less quantity than actual lifted quantity as per the supply order and misappropriated a total quantity of 287.625 Metric Ton (MT) bulk bitumen costing Rs.14.38 Lakhs.   

After investigation, CBI filed Charge-sheet on 07.02.2002 against Suresh Kumar Gupta (Pvt. Person); Baikunth Nath Sharma, the then Executive Engineer, Road Construction Division (RCD), Biharsharif; Balmiki Chaudhary, Jr. Engineer, Sanhola Block, Distt, Bhagalpur, Bihar and Raghunandan Singh, Asstt. Engineer/ SDO, Department of Road Construction, Bihar. 

The accused Balmiki Chaudhary, Jr. Engineer, Sanhola Block, Distt, Bhagalpur, Bihar and accused Raghunandan Singh, Asstt. Engineer/ SDO, Department of Road Construction, Bihar have expired during the trial. 

The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused persons accordingly.
