In order to shift the protest site of the farmers 300 meters away from the ethanol plant at Village Mansurwala, the District Magistrate Amrit Singh today imposed section 144 of CRPC to ensure the movement of the workers inside the plant.
It is pertinent to mention here that thousands of protestors have been protesting for more than two months at Village Mansurwala in Zira sub-division demanding closure of the plant over charges of alleged contamination of ground water due to discharge coming out of the unit.
Though, the National Green Tribunal had given clean chit to the plant in its report submitted to the district administration regarding charges of contamination of the ground water by the ethanol plant, neither the protestors have lifted dharna nor they agreed to shift the venue of dharna site.(SUBHEAD)
DM Amrit Singh said that as per the instructions of the court in the civil writ petition 16500 of 2022 dated 29.07.2022, no obstruction should be created in the entry and exit of the factory employees by the protestors. “Besides, the court had also instructed to shift the protest site 300 meters away from the plant. In view of the instructions of the court, these orders have been issued”, said DM.
