Tension gripped the Ferozepur–Fazilka stretch yesterday evening after three unidentified motorcycle-borne youths opened fire on a Punjab Roadways bus (PB 05 AB 5835) heading towards Ganganagar. The bus had left Ferozepur city at 5.10 pm and came under attack near Karian Pehlawan village, where the assailants first fired towards the driver’s side and then overtook the vehicle to shoot again at its front. Nearly 25 to 30 passengers were onboard during the incident.

Conductor Amandeep Singh suffered minor injuries after bullet pellets struck his leg. He said the youths hurled abuses while crossing the bus and suddenly began firing, creating panic among passengers. Following the attack, the three youths fled, and the driver immediately drove the bus to the Lakho ke Behram police station. The investigation was later handed over to Mamdot police since the spot fell under their jurisdiction.

“We were travelling peacefully and there was no issue. Suddenly, the accused appeared from nowhere and fired two rounds, one hitting the front portion and the other near the driver’s door,” Amandeep said.

Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO Mamdot, said the police are probing the matter and examining CCTV footage along the route to identify the assailants. Sources added that special nakas have been set up and a manhunt is underway to track down the suspects.
