The Indian Weightlifting Federation announces that India has won the bidding process for hosting the 2023 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships at New Delhi.

The decision to award India the championship was taken by the Asian Weightlifting Federation during its Executive Board meeting held on July 16, 2022 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This will be the first International Weightlifting event hosted by India since the 2015 Youth, Junior and Senior Commonwealth Championship held in Pune.

Speaking after the award of the championship Mr. Sahdev Yadav, President Indian Weightlifting Federation said “I would like to thank the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and Sports Authority of India for its constant support to weightlifting and also for backing us by providing easy clearance for hosting an International Tournament in India. We look forward to the assistance of both the Central and State Governments for successful hosting of the tournament in New Delhi”.(SUBHEAD)

Mr. Arnab Das CEO, Indian Weightlifting Federation added “it was a competitive bidding process for the Championship and we are very happy that the Asian Weightlifting Federation considered ours to be the best. We now look forward to partnering with various stakeholders including corporate bodies for successful hosting of this Championship''.
