ACTION AGAINST GANGSTERS/CRIMINALS: 2536 HELD, 24 NEUTRALISED IN PUNJAB SINCE APRIL 2022

CHANDIGARH, November 27: 

Reiterating its firm commitment against organised crime and ensuring the safety of citizens, Punjab Police has busted 962 gangsters/criminals modules and arrested 2536 gangsters/criminals, besides, neutralising 24 across the state since April 2022, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday. 

Notably, the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab government had formed the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) headed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Promod Ban to effectively combat gangster culture from the state. 

Sharing outcomes, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that Punjab Police teams have also recovered 2086 weapons, 564 vehicles used in criminal activities, 79 Kg heroin and Rs 4.69 crore drug money from the possession of arrested accused persons. 

He informed that at least 324 exchange of fire took place between police party and criminals in this period, during which 24 gangsters/criminals were neutralised and 515 gangsters/criminals were arrested, of which, 319 had sustained injuries. “Unfortunately, three of our colleagues attained martyrdom, while, 41 police personnel had sustained injuries during the exchange of fires,” said the DGP. 

Meanwhile, since the formation of the AGTF, the unit has spearheaded dedicated operations against the gangsters and criminals in the state and other parts of the country. AGTF has also shared real-time information with various field units to carry out joint operations against the gangsters.
