An animal lover, Ashwani Kumar of Madhopuri, Ludhiana, saw a turtle near Budha Nala, being stoned by some passerbyes. He stopped them and took it to his home and contacted Dr Sandeep Kumar Jain, President People for Animals and former Member, Punjab State Board for Wildlife.

Dr. Jain informed Chief Wildlife Warden and Incharge Ludhiana Zoo Narinder Singh. Then Dr Jain Contacted Some experts of Marine life and Dr Bhaskar Chaudhry of Wildlife Trust of India. They confirmed it as Geochemist Hamiltonian, Senile, also known as the black pond turtle or Indian yellow spotted turtle. It is a species of freshwater turtle native to the northern and north-eastern Indian subcontinent. It is classified as an Endangered species by the IUCN Red List.

It is an omnivore with a diet that includes fruits, seeds, and aquatic plants, supplemented by small invertebrates like worms and insects, as well as fish and crustaceans. Their diet varies depending on the season and water levels, with a stronger emphasis on plants during floods.

The Wildlife sent its official to receive the reptile for check-up and rehabilitation in its habitat
