TARAN TARN BYE ELECTION

(MOREPIC1) Face2News/Chandigarh

The Election Commission on Saturday issued directives to suspend senior Superintendent of Police Ravjot Kaur Grewal of Tarn Tarn ahead of the Assembly by-election to be held on November 11. Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has been given additional charge of SSP of Tarn Tarn with immediate effect.

No reason has been given for Grewal’s suspension. Last month, opposition Shiromani Akali Dal  president Sukhbir Singh Badal had filed a complaint against SSP Grewal with Punjab’s chief election officer.

Badal, in his complaint, had accused SSP Grewal of using the police to register a “false” FIR against his party leadership and workers to prevent him from campaigning for the Tarn Tarn by-election.

SAD had also staged a sit-in against the SSP for allegedly taking action against his party workers and leaders. Polling for the Tarn Tarn bye-election will be held on November 11 and the results will be declared on November 14. The Tarn Tarn assembly seat became vacant after the death of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June last.
