CLAIMS OF ADEQUATE PADDY PURCHASE IN ABOHAR NOT PERFECT: MLA

Read in:English

Face2News/Abohar.

During a visit to the new grain market, MLA Sandeep Jakhar, said that glut of paddy belies the perfect arrangements claim made by the AAP led Punjab government.

He said that the government had assured farmers there will be no problem but the situation looks the opposite. Due to the slow lifting, heaps of paddy are piling up in the market.

(SUBHEAD)Jakhar listened to farmers' concerns and said that previous governments had never experienced such delays in lifting any crop, but due to the state government's lax approach, lifting from procurement centers is proceeding at a very slow pace, causing significant difficulties for commission agents and farmers.

The MLA said that despite the paddy harvest being lower than last year, the situation remains so dire. The officials have blocked the fire brigade's access road and piled up paddy there. He asked – who would be responsible if something untoward were to occur. Jakhar said that half of the crop has arrived in the market but the district administration has no time to visit the market.
