In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing special checking and special operations to ensure safe and peaceful festive season as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar has apprehended three persons and recovered yet another weapons consignment comprising one AK-47 rifle along with two magazines and 60 live cartridges and three 9MM Glock pistols along with seven magazines and 50 live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

Those arrested have been identified as Gurwinder Singh alias Ginder, a resident of Sangrai in Gurdaspur, Vipan Kumar alias Manish, a resident of Marrianwal in Batala and Chamkor Singh, a resident of Natt in Batala, District Gurdaspur.

The development came a day after consignment of three weapons compromising two AK-47 rifles and one PX5 pistol recovered from near the Indo-Pak border falling under Khemkaran in Tarn Taran.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the consignment was arranged by USA-based Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi from Pakistan. The consignment was drone dropped near Indo-Pak border in the area of Kalanaur in Gurdaspur, in mid-September 2025 which was retrieved by arrested accused, he said.

The DGP said that investigations are ongoing to identify the smugglers, trace forward and backward linkages in this case, and dismantle the entire smuggling network.

Sharing operational details, AIG SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann said that these recoveries were made after the arrest of accused Chamkor Singh in an ongoing operation initiated after the arrest of his two accomplices—Ginder and Manish— after recovery of one Glock Pistol from their possession, which was part of this consignment.

The AIG said that the name of Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi was also figured in murder of Jugraj Singh Sarpanch Cheema Khudi regarding which Manu Agwan group had claimed responsibility. Further investigations are on, he added.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 55 dated 02/10/2025 had already been registered under section 25 of the Arms Act and section 61 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 22 of the NDPS Act at PS SSOC Amritsar.
