At a program organized at the birthplace of “Ghazal-King” Jagjit Singh in Sriganganagar on his 14th death anniversary, MLA Jaideep Bihani last evening announced that the city will soon have a beautiful auditorium. He said that efforts were on to name the Rs 10-crore auditorium after the great musician and singer who enchanted the entire world with his velvety and silky ghazal singing.

(SUBHEAD)The program was organized by the RD Burman Fans Club at G-25 Quarter in the Civil Lines, where Jagjit Singh spent his childhood, received his school education, and obtained initial training in music. This place is now being developed by the state government as a memorial to Jagjit Singh.

Bihani said that the auditorium, to be built near the Mini Secretariat, with about one thousand seating capacity, will be equipped with modern facilities and technology. It will be constructed by the Urban Improvement Trust. He suggested opening a Jagjit Singh Music Academy at the memorial site to encourage emerging talents in the region in music. He informed that Jagjit Singh's fellow artists in Mumbai also wish to develop this memorial like a museum.

The founder coordinator of the Club, Shailendra Singh Chauhan, said, “Our effort is to get this memorial site ready as soon as possible so that people can come here and remember Jagjit Singh.” On the occasion, Sunil Sharma presented popular ghazals of Jagjit Singh, while Jagdish Setia also recited a ghazal.
