In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Counter Intelligence (CI) Wing of Punjab Police has recovered 5.15 kg heroin, Rs, 29.16 lakh drug money, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle, besides nabbing two drug smugglers.

SSP Bhupinder Singh said during checking, 5.15 kg heroin along with Rs 29.16 lakh drug money was recovered from the accused, following which an FIR No. 363 under Sections 21, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act was registered at City Police Station. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had direct links with Pakistani smuggler Utshah Pathan and had earlier received heroin consignments from him. The police are now investigating both forward and backward links, and more recoveries are likely in the coming days,” the SSP added.

Inspector Mohit Dhawan, who led the operation, said that the success was the result of meticulous surveillance and swift execution based on credible intelligence. He said that the team’s focus was not just to seize drugs but also to dismantle the entire supply network operating across the border.

“One of the accused, Sajan, is already involved in five NDPS cases,” SSP Bhupinder Singh revealed, adding that further investigation is underway to identify and arrest other persons connected with this network.
