REVIEW MEETING OF CHILD MARRIAGE PROHIBITION OFFICERS HELD

In compliance with the order of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Sriganganagar District Collector Dr. Manju, a review meeting of the activities undertaken by all the child marriage prohibition officers appointed in the district for effective prevention of child marriages was held today in VC (DoIT) regarding the organization of a state level consultation workshop on the topic “Protection of girls: Towards a safe and enabling environment for them in Rajasthan” in the campaign to prevent child marriage. The meeting was chaired by Additional District Collector (Administration) Subhash Kumar. 

Assistant Director, Child Rights Department Renu Khairwa and State Communication and Juvenile Home Superintendent Rajiv Jakhar told the Child Marriage Prohibition Officers and other stakeholders of all subdivisions connected through VC in the meeting that “Decorate the dreams of children, do not get them married as children”. Marrying a boy below 21 years of age and a girl below 18 years of age is a legal crime.

To stop child marriage, the law of Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 has been made, in which the punishment can be up to 2 years of imprisonment or a fine of Rs 1 lakh or both. The parents, religious gurus, wedding invitation card printers, relatives, tent owners, confectioners involved in such marriages are all criminals. Child Welfare Committee Chairman Joginder Kaushik, member Dr. Ram Prakash Sharma, Assistant Director Women Empowerment Department Vijay Kumar, ADEO Jaidev, RPS Kuldeep Walia and other Child Marriage Prohibition Officers remained connected through VC in the meeting.
