In a victory against international drug trafficking racket through Indo–Pak border, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh Zonal Unit, secured the conviction of accused Vakeel Singh, reaffirming NCB’s unwavering commitment to dismantling narcotics networks.

On 08.09.2022, troops of 160 Battalion, BSF, deployed at BOP N.S. Wala, Jalalabad sector, Punjab, successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle 1.790 kg of Heroin across the Indo–Pak international border.

Subsequently, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh Zonal Unit seized the recovered contraband vide NCB Crime No. 59/2022 and the case was taken up for further investigation. In connection with the case, Vakeel Singh S/o Harbans Singh, R/o Village Dhandi Qadim, District Fazilka, Punjab, was arrested on 09.09.2022.

The investigation by NCB reveals that the accused, Vakeel Singh, was allegedly involved in the smuggling of heroin from across the international border. It was found that the heroin had been supplied by a Pakistani national named ‘Amar’ and was initially kept across the border fence on the Pakistan side. The accused, driving a Swaraj 855 FE tractor, is stated to have retrieved the contraband from across the fence and concealed it inside the hollow cavity of the tractor’s bumper ,in two cold drink bottles, so as to avoid detection. During checking near the border gate, BSF found two bottles containing heroin from the said cavity.

NCB filed a complaint under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, against theaccused persons before the Hon’ble NDPS Court, Fazilkaon 03.03.2023.

On 05.03.2026, the Hon’ble Court convicted Vakeel Singh and sentenced him to 10 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a fine of ₹1,00,000, signaling zero tolerance for drug trafficking and recognizing NCB’s rigorous investigation and prosecution.
