PROPRIETARY RIGHTS TO FARMERS TILLING LAND, PERMANENT SOLUTION TO FLOODS NEEDED: AMARINDER SINGH RAJA WARRING

Stressing the demand for proprietary rights to farmers who have been tilling land for years, Punjab Congress chief and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today launched a scathing attack on the state government during his visit to flood-hit areas of Ferozepur.

He said that most districts of Punjab are reeling under floods, leaving farmers devastated as their crops, homes, and livestock have been severely damaged. “The Punjab government should have made prior arrangements. If water had been released gradually from Bhakra, this large-scale destruction could have been avoided,” he said.

Warring alleged that relief work has been negligible so far and people are being forced to manage on their own. He demanded a permanent solution to recurring flood situations which cause heavy losses every year.

On the issue of farmers cultivating “kachhi zameen” (non-proprietary land), Warring said that the state government must fight this battle for the farmers. I, along with Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya, will raise this issue in Parliament to ensure their demands are addressed and due compensation is provided.”

He further said that he was the first to propose donating one month’s salary on social media, following which the Chief Minister also announced the same. “At least one month’s salary should be given, and if possible, more. We have also directed our Congress workers to extend maximum help to people, whether in providing food rations or fodder for cattle,” he added.

Warring was accompanied by Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya, District Congress President Kulbir Singth Zira, Ex MLA Parminder Singh Pinki, Gurdeep Dhillon, Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, Ashu Bangar and other congress workers.
