RMP DOCTOR AND FAMOUS BUSINESSMAN ARRESTED WITH 5 KG CONTRABAND OPIUM

Barnala police  reported to have  arrested two people with 5 kg opium. The arrested accused identified as RMP doctor and another famous businessman. District police chief Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam IPS has attributed this success to the war against drugs campaign run by the police. 

SSP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam IPS said that on 21 August 2025, Inspector Baljit Singh, in-charge of CIA Staff Barnala, received information that Gagandeep Singh son of Jagtar Singh resident of Kattu Road Uppli and Sumit Kumar son of Vipin Kumar resident of Barnala both bring narcotic (opium) from outside states and sell it in the city and nearby villages.

(SUBHEAD)Based on this information, CIA. The police party of the staff arrested accused Gagandeep Singh and Sumit Kumar coming from Link Road, Farwahi in their car and recovered 2 kg opium from them.

In this regard FIR No. 128,21-08-2025, section 18/61/85 NDPS Act was registered in police station Barnala. During the investigation conducted after the arrest, 3 kg more opium was recovered on the information of accused Sumit Kumar.

SSP ,said  accused Gagandeep Singh has been working as RMP doctor in village Uppli police station Dhanaula and accused Sumit Kumar runs a mobile phone spare parts shop in Handiya market of Barnala.

The arrested accused are being questioned thoroughly and other important revelations are likely to be made. 

It is worth mentioning that the accused Sumit Kumar has a wholesale business of mobile phone accessories, which he has been supplying to the nearby areas, he has a luxurious mansion in Astha Colony near the city. Despite having all this, how did he get into the business of selling opium.
