Water Resource Minister Barinder Goel during his visit to flood affected villages in this border district today interacted with the villagers and assured them that the Punjab government stands firmly with them in this hour of crisis.

During his visit to the worst affected villages Tendi Wala, Dheera Ghara and Gajni Wala, where thousands of acres of farmland and hundreds of houses have been inundated following the release of water from Harike headworks, Goel said the government is making all-out efforts to provide relief to the affected families and to minimize further damage to crops and property.

(SUBHEAD)“The district administration is on high alert and ensuring timely evacuation, medical assistance, fodder for livestock, and uninterrupted supply of essential commodities,” said Goel, adding that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is personally monitoring the situation and has instructed officials to extend every possible support to the people”, said Goel adding that few people are still sitting on the riverbed despite warnings.

Goel further assured the villagers that compensation for their losses would be provided after proper assessment and urged them to cooperate with the authorities in relief operations. However, few villagers demanded that the state government must make efforts for the proprietary rights for the tillers also.

Earlier, the Minister reviewed the situation at Hussainiwala Headworks with Deputy Commissioner Deep Shikha Sharma, SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, Chief Engineer Drainage Hardeep Singh Mandiratta, and other officials, issuing necessary instructions for effective ground-level action.
