In view of the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections, Panchkula Police is on high alert and closely monitoring the supply of narcotics from other states. Police Commissioner (ADGP) Shivas Kabiraj had recently issued strict instructions during a review meeting to keep a close watch on drug trafficking into the district.
Acting on these directions, the Anti-Narcotics Cell team, led by Incharge Praveen Kumar, carried out a major operation and arrested a drug trafficker who used to bring charas from Himachal Pradesh and supply it in the Pinjore-Kalka region.
ACP Crime Arvind Kamboj stated that the police received specific information that a person named Varun Bhardwaj was involved in supplying charas from the Rajgarh area of Himachal Pradesh and would be arriving near Shivloutia Temple, Ghatiwala (Pinjore), to deliver the contraband to a customer. Taking the tip-off seriously, the police team laid a trap and apprehended the suspect at the spot.
DCP Crime & Traffic Amarinder Singh informed that during the search, 499 grams of charas was recovered from the accused’s bag. Additionally, a mobile phone, cash, and identity documents were also seized. A case has been registered under Section 20(b)(II)(B) of the NDPS Act at Pinjore Police Station.
The accused has been identified as Varun Bhardwaj (42), a resident of Rajgarh, District Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh). He will be presented before the court tomorrow, and police will seek his remand to uncover his network and identify other individuals involved in the racket.
Police Commissioner (ADGP) Shivas Kabiraj stated that ensuring free and fair Municipal Corporation elections is a top priority. A zero-tolerance policy against drugs has been adopted, and strict action will continue against those involved in drug trafficking from other states.
