Raj Sadosh/Abohar.
Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has promised to tackle stray bulls and dogs menace in Abohar if voted to power again in Abohar Municipal Corporation elections.
MLA Sandeep Jakhar and former Mayor Vimal Thatai, were among those who released the “Sankalp Patra” which also said that the state government recently released Rs 33 crore each to the municipal corporations of Hoshiarpur and Batala, and Rs 25 crore to Mohali, it allocated a mere Rs 5 crore to Abohar for urban development. No regular MC Commissioner was appointed in the past four years.
The BJP leaders pointed out that their team in Municipal Corporation completed its tenure on April 7, after that the entire administrative machinery of the corporation had crumbled.
The MLA recounted that during the first session of the Assembly, the Chief Minister had assured him that the construction of the Abohar bus stand would be completed within six months; however, even after four and a half years, nothing but pillars are visible at the site. He remarked that the abysmal state of law and order can be gauged from the fact that in July 2025, prominent businessman Sanjay Verma was murdered in broad daylight right outside his showroom, yet the named shooters have not been arrested to this day. Since then, fatal robbery and snatching attempts were repeated besides a hundred incidents of thefts, yet the police had failed to curb this menace.
