Looking confident of retaining power in the Municipal Corporation in the May 26 polling, MLA Sandeep Jakhar sharpened attack on the AAP led government alleging malpractice in carpeting of roads in the recent past. A road has crumbled even when the monsoon was far off. He said that the hard-earned tax money has been brazenly squandered. How this shoddy construction expected to withstand the onslaught of the monsoon in the days to come, he asked.
The MLA said that the state government started carpeting potholed roads in Abohar only when alarm bells for the Municipal Corporation started ringing. The Sadar Thana Road was carpeted during rain last month and washed away. This exposed the hollowness of all the government’s claims regarding honesty and integrity.
Congress had won 49 wards in the first corporation election held in 2021. After Sunil Jakhar’s appointment as state BJP chief, most of the councilors joined the BJP in 2023.
Congress, BJP, AAP and SAD- are locked in four-cornered contests in 17 out of 50 wards of Abohar Municipal Corporation, polling for which is to be held on May 26.
Congress has no candidate in13 wards, SAD has no candidate in 14 wards. There is going to be a direct contest between BJP and AAP in five wards.
