Tightening the noose around cross-border narcotics smuggling, the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Punjab Police has busted an alleged Pakistan-linked drug trafficking module with the arrest of four persons and recovery of 28.12 kg heroin along with Rs 9.5 lakh suspected drug money in the Guruharsahai area of this border district.

Divulging details, Gaurav Yadav said that the arrested accused have been identified as Bagicha Singh and Bhupinder Singh, both residents of Boghi Wala village in Guruharsahai area, Sajan, a resident of Araiyan Wala village, and Chhinder Pal Singh alias Rinku, a resident of Lakha Singh Wala village in Ferozepur.

The DGP said that apart from the heroin haul, the police also impounded a Hyundai Creta car allegedly being used by the accused for transporting narcotics. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the module had links with foreign-based smugglers and handlers, who had allegedly tasked the accused with retrieving and further distributing the narcotics consignments within Indian territory.

The DGP further said that investigations are underway to establish backward and forward linkages in the case and dismantle the entire cross-border smuggling network.

Gursewak Singh AIG (CI)  said that the police had received reliable inputs that the accused had recently retrieved a heroin consignment delivered from across the border. “The inputs further revealed that on the directions of their handlers, the accused were on their way to deliver the consignment to another location,” said the AIG.

“Acting swiftly, the CI team intercepted the suspects in the Guruharsahai area and recovered 28.12 kg heroin along with Rs 9.5 lakh drug money from their possession”, said AIG adding that the accused had allegedly been promised huge monetary returns by their handlers for delivering the consignment.

He added that more arrests and recoveries are likely in the coming days as the investigation progresses. In this regard, FIR No. 13 dated 23.05.2026 under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station SSOC Fazilka.
