A major dispute has surfaced in Maya Garden City, Zirakpur, regarding the proposed construction of a temple in a common parking area. The matter has escalated to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which has ordered a site inspection.
The proposed religious structure has faced significant pushback from several residents, including Ramit Narwal, Nagender Verma, Tower Secretary Rahul Kamboj, Vikas Baweja, and Ravinder Kaushal.
The controversy has been further fueled by leaked audio involving Gurjeet Singh Sidhu, the president of the society. According to the viral clip, while Sidhu publicly supports the temple’s construction to secure votes from religious female members of the society, he is privately against the project and is allegedly encouraging other members to agitate against it.
The legal challenge against the construction is being spearheaded by Bhupender Singh, a resident of Flat No. 903 in Tower G-5. Singh has filed a Civil Writ Petition (CWP-15346-2026) in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the State of Punjab, Municipal Council Zirakpur, GMADA, and the Residential Welfare Association (RWA) of Maya Garden City.
Key details of the petition include: The RWA has illegally initiated the construction of a Mandir near Tower G-5 and the Yoga Park without any sanctioned building plan or approval from the competent authorities. The construction is taking place in a parking/common area, which violates the PAPRA Act, the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) 2016, Municipal Laws, and Building Bye-Laws.
The petitioner had previously served a legal notice to the Estate Officer of Municipal Corporation Zirakpur on March 23, 2026, seeking immediate intervention and demolition, but no action was taken by the authorities.
Taking cognizance of the matter on May 18, 2026, a High Court bench comprising Justice Suvir Sehgal and Justice Vikas Suri issued a notice of motion to the respondents.
The court has directed the official respondents to inspect the disputed site and file their respective affidavits before the next date of hearing that is July 7, 2026.
