CBI FILES TWO CHARGESHEETS IN IDFC FIRST BANK MISAPPROPRIATION CASES RELATING TO HARYANA GOVT AND CHANDIGARH

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed two separate chargesheets in connection with the misappropriation of funds pertaining to the Government of Haryana and Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL).

The chargesheet concerning the misappropriation of Haryana Government funds has been filed before the Ld. Court of the Special Judge, CBI, Panchkula, Haryana. In this case, two accused persons, both private persons who are the recipients of proceeds of crime, have been chargesheeted. This is the second chargesheet in the Haryana Gov case. It may be recalled that CBI has already chargesheeted 15 accused persons/Companies earlier including 3 Government servants, 6 bankers, 2 companies and 4 private persons.

The chargesheet concerning Chandigarh Smart City Limited has been filed before the Ld. Court of Special Judge, CBI, Chandigarh. In this case, seven accused persons have been chargesheeted, including five bank officials, one official of CSCL and one private person. This is the first chargesheet in the Chandigarh Smart City Limited case.

The offences cited in the chargesheets relate to criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, forgery and cheating, along with offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

CBI had taken over one case from the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Haryana relating to eight departments of Govt. of Haryana, and two cases from the Economic Offences Police Station, Chandigarh pertaining to Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. and CREST Chandigarh.

It is pertinent to note that the total loss caused by these transactions in Haryana Government case is ₹504 crore and in Chandigarh UT it is ₹153 crore.

Investigation in the matters is continuing. More chargesheets are expected to be filed in these cases in future.
