The members of Public Action Committee hold peaceful protest at location of crime i.e. in front of Fat Tiger Restaurant as well as MC office Sarabha Nagar against deliberate inaction by Municipal Commissioner as well as Horticulture Engineer Kirpal Singh of MCL to save the accused persons involved in axing of 25-30 years old native tree.
Kuldeep Singh Khaira & Gurpreet Singh informed that the information of crime of axing of tree was given to the Municipal Commissioner as well as JE Kirpal Singh on Saturday along with relevant sections of BNS in which crime is committed by the accused persons, however both have failed to get the FIR registered against the accused persons involved in the offence and behavior of both the Public Servants is suspicious.
(SUBHEAD)It is pertinent to mention here that we had specially intimated the Municipal Commissioner to immediate direct the officials to inspect CCTV Cameras installed near the crime scene but no efforts have been made to procure the evidence till now.
Dr. Amandeep Singh Bains & Gagnish Khurana informed that Punjab has come up with the Tree Preservation Policy without any provisions of offences pertaining to Environmental laws and has included action under BNS only which is mere an eyewash as BNS 2023 doesn’t include offence for damage to Environment. Such an policy is just a trash as it doesn’t provide any provision for public to move NGT.
Er. Jaskirat Singh & Er. Kapil Arora informed that there have been many such incidents of axing of trees in BRS Nagar only and JE Kirpal Singh has failed to register even a single FIR against the accused persons despite their identification.
It is well known to all that Municipal Commissioner has been deliberately defying NGT orders and is also involved in environmental damage by giving node to construct buildings over land of greenbelts and parks, narrowing budha dariya etc. Now we are going to file complaint against Municipal Commissioner & JE Kirpal Singh for their act with intent to save the criminals from legal punishment. Further, our case pertaining to objections against impugned Tree Policy is listed for 25th July and we will update NGT regarding irresponsible behavior of both the officials today by way of rejoinder.
