A team from the CID (Zone), Sriganganagar, has arrested three individuals from Baruwala village. The accused were identified as Ranjeet Singh, Vikasdeep (alias Vicky), and Sukhvinder Singh (alias Chhinda Singh/Tehal Singh). The trio was active in a network that collaborated with Pakistani smugglers to procure heroin and weapons via drones.
Police Inspector Mahavir Prasad was investigating a case involving a packet containing approximately 760 grams of heroin found in farmer Atma Ram’s field at Chak 4-BWSM. The CID (Zone) was also associated with the investigation. After nearly two months of intensive inquiry, the CID team discovered that the three accused from Baruwala village had procured the heroin packet by contacting Pakistani smugglers via WhatsApp. According to CID sources, Ranjeet Singh has direct links with Pakistani smugglers. Vikasdeep and Sukhvinder Singh were his accomplices.
The trio is also suspected of involvement in a case from February concerning a foreign-made Glock pistol found in a field; a case against unknown persons had then been registered. In a related development, a packet containing approximately 750 grams of heroin was recovered from Ram Chandra’s field at Chak 22 PTD on June 24; a case against unknown persons was registered in this instance too. Sources indicate that four packets were dropped by a drone at Chak 22 PTD.
Smugglers retrieved three packets, but one remained missing until it was later found in Ram Chandra’s field. Similarly, it is suspected that other packets, in addition to the one found in Atma Ram’s field, were also dropped by drones. Ranjeet Singh has prior cases of rape and extortion registered against him. All three accused were today produced in court, and the police have secured their remand.
